GERMAN MARATHON READING

It becomes a tradition that the German language teachers together with our library, organize the Marathon.
We started since 2006, and become a custom, that in Christmas our students come and present short parts from their favorite books.
Each student read only 3 minutes, beceause there were more than 200 participants!
At the end each reader received a gift from our school library.
We think that it was a real success. We have a new record of participants! Our school library thanks to the teachers for the collaboration!

American Corner

On Thursday (11.12.2008) we started again the American Corner.

Our guest was Erin Aldrich, a Peace Corp volunteer in our county. She was discussing with our students about the Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We think that the American Corners organized in our library gives the opportunity for our kids to know better the culture of USA, and to practice the language with a native speaker.

And Erin was great! We hope that we shall collaborate with you in the future! Thank you!
And thank you for the English teachers, who help our library to organize this event!

School Librarian Meeting in Băile Tuşnad

The Harghita County and the Covasna County school librarians organized a professional meeting at Baile Tusnad. It was the last chapter of the International School Library Month. It was organized on 14th of November. I know that it was late, but because of some organizational problems it was not possible to put it earlier.
About the program:
1. Mardirosz Ajka, Egyed Daniela and Borbé Levente was talking about the situation of the school libraries and CDI's in Harghita County
2. Kiss László presented the management of a project, more clearly the management of the ISLM in the Mikes Kelemen High School Library.
3. Opait Carmen presented the new school library laws.

The celebration ends with a party. It was a real success! It is the first time when the school librarians from the two counties met each other.

Fairytale Day

This is an important celebration in our school library too. Today we commemorate our storytellers who lived and worked in our region like Benedek Elek, Ráduly János and Nagy Olga. They are well known not only here, but their masterpieces are parts of the Hungarian culture.
We didn't forget the other great storytellers too. Today, we organized an exposition with their books. The children who entered in our library received as a gift children magazines like Kispajtás, Szemfüles and Cimbora . Attaaaaack!

This year the children from the first grade become our reader earlier. We wanted to do their registration later, in the end of April, but they threat us with strike! Wow! This is the dream of every librarian! So, this time we organized their first meeting with the library a month earlier. We organized some special classes for the 1st graders during which we did their registration too. These days become very crowded. Hopefully their enthusiasm will continue on the upper grades too.

Astrid Lindgren Celebrations

Skolbibliotek Syd (School Library South)
is a regional Swedish organisation for librarians, teacher librarians, teachers and other parties interested in school libraries. They work in the south of Sweden and they have more than 200 members. In Sweden there are several library organisations. Their organisation has two independent sister organisations in other parts of Sweden.

Skolbibliotek Syd (School Library South) in the south of Sweden invited the Mikes Kelemen High School to participate in an Astrid Lindgren project.
Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish children's book author and screenwriter, whose many titles were translated into 85 languages and published in more than 100 countries. She has sold roughly 145 million copies worldwide. Today, she is most remembered for writing the Pippi Longstocking books, as well as Karlsson-on-the-Roof book series.

2007 was an Astrid Lingren year. She was born in November 14, 1907.

Our School have received from the Swedish association a Pippi Longstocking-bag with a book about Pippi and materials about Astrid Lindgren. They sent us a questionnaire in which we had to answer about how well known is Astrid Lindgren in Romania. They also wanted to know more the Romanian school librarians and especially about our school. We sent pictures of our school and library. We organized a little painting contest and an exposition about Pippi Longstocking with the readers of our school library. We sent the drawings to Skolbibliotek Syd too.
