Our children were very happy to discuss with them.
Thank you very much to Goga Enikő, our English teacher, for her cooperation.
The State of Arkansas has got an important meaning for us: Jason Brasswell, the first  Peace Corps volunteer came from there.

World No Tobacco Day

On 31th of May our science teachers and the library organized a campaign against smoking.
1. We invited Mrs. Balogh Klára, the spokesman of the ''Together Against Cancer Association'' to discus with our upper grade students about the daily life of those who suffer of cancer, about their social and psychical problems. About these things the ordinary man knows and talk a little, usually avoid them.
2. Our students from the V-XII. grades, created during a contest, a lot of big posters against smoking. The posters are exposed during an exhibition in our school library hall.
3. The students from the I-IV. grades were drawing on the basketball field, which is next to our school library. Theme of the contest was: "Say yes for the beauty, say no to smoking!"
4. The experienced bikers were riding together with the librarian in the Mt. Baraolt. We accepted only those students who participated at least one cycling contest. We wanted to support Lance Armstrong, the great biker, who defeated the cancer and supports many people who suffer of this disease. We wanted to present also a new, healthy style of life to the other students.
We thank to the schoolmasters and to the art teacher for their cooperation!
Special thanks to the school principals for their support!

The Writers' Map - Harta scriitorilor

''The Writers' Map - Harta scriitorilor''  (19.05.2011) was organized together with Rusznák Gabriella, Popescu Carmen, Romanian language and literature teachers, and the Mikes High School Library.
Our aim was to help our children, to practice the Romanian language in a more or less unusuall way.
The students form groups of 4-5 persons.
Each group had to read a novel in romanian from the universal literature. During the contest they had to present the writer, the country and it's customs.
They had to present the novel, and to create a bookmark and bookjacket for that novel.
They argued, why they liked that novel.
It was a real success! We shall organize it in the future too!

Dr. Seuss in Mikes

On Dr. Seuss birthday (March the 2nd) we met with the readers of  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School Complex / Atlantic City / New Jersey.
Dr. Seuss for the Americans is like Benedek Elek and  Ion Creangă for us.
He wrote 44 books for children.
For his memory the National Education Association created the  Read Across America, which  is an annual reading motivation and awareness program in USA, that calls every child in every community to celebrate reading on March 2.
Our program was very interesting.
First the students from  Atlantic City presented ''The Cat in the Hat" , the most important book of  Dr. Seuss.
Then we were discussing about our schools, customs and  famous Afro-Americans.
The great surprise it was offered to us by  Mr. Lorenzo T. Langford, the mayor of Atlantic City, who not only greeted us, but he kindly answered to all our questions.
In this condition the time flew by. The Mikes students didn't read. No problem, we shall do next time!
Special thanks to Goga Enikő, our English teacher, for cooperation.
